Nordstrom is looking to pull online and in store closer together with its latest strategy, which sees Pinterest favourites displayed.

Items which receive the most pins on Pinterest see a small tag with the red ‘P’ branding, to help customers see what is receiving the most traction online.

Colin Johnson, Nordstrom corporate affairs representative, told the Huffington Post: "It's our fastest growing social channel, so we wanted to integrate the feedback that we're getting from our Pinterest community."

The system is currently being trialled in 13 stores.

I realize 2D barcodes are uncool, but adding them here would enhance content maximization and contribute to ROI. Pinterest is essentially a visual bookmarking platform whose users are generally tech-savvy shoppers. Incorporating a product-specific 2D barcode under each Pinterest icon would allow them an easy way to find the shoe on Pinterest and add it to a board to deal with later, which also provides product visibility to the user's followers, generating amplification. The product pin is already linked to its own page on Nordstrom.com, enabling users to enter Nordstrom's conversion path when they're ready to purchase. As it stands now, simply letting the shopper know the product is on Pinterest doesn't do much other than demonstrate social proof of its desirability. Print the 2D barcode in Pinterest red at minimum size to help get past its less than optimal aesthetic :)
