McCann Dublin has announced the agency will merge with Blue Cube Dublin next month to create creative agency McCannBlue.

Merger: New CEO Orlaith Blaney with digital director Sébastien Sicot

A statement from McCann said months of in-house research had identified a need to reshape the advertising industry in Ireland and the agency would work towards that using a planning and creative platform developed over the last six months.

Orlaith Blaney, who has worked in Irish advertising for the last 20 years, has been named CEO of the merged agency, while current managing director at Blue Cube Sébastien Sicot has been appointed digital director.

"The Irish market is chock-a-block with both local and network agencies just adding on digital ideas to the end of campaigns or some stand-alone digital shops who don’t get the opportunity to really work on the bigger client strategies," said Blaney.

"We see a real opportunity to transform and change that for our clients by giving them a powerful new agency solution to help them to deliver in a tough economic environment."

EVP McCann WorldGroup, Julian Ingram, added: "The merger creates a stronger more relevant brand in the Irish market, with strong digital capabilities at the centre of the offer. As Dublin grows as a technology and innovation hub for Europe, McCannBlue and its breadth of talent will make us even more relevant and competitive in the regional marketplace."

The agencies will operate as the new creation from 15 July and will be based at Grand Canal Dock in Dublin, also home to Google and Facebook's Dublin offices.
