To promote the sixth season of Geordie Shore MTV is using time-limited photo and video-sharing app Snapchat.

Exclusive photos and videos from the sixth series, which was filmed earlier this year in Australia, are to be sent out from MTV’s own Geordie Shore Snapchat account directly to fans’ smartphones.

Of the decision to use Snapchat, Jo Bacon, MTV UK VP of marketing, creative and publicity, explained: “Snapchat completely lends itself to the creative concept for series six, offering us a direct marketing route to our fans by reaching them on their most beloved devices.”

Bacon added: “Providing even more exclusive and irreverent content to our fans gives them the immediate access to all the need-to-know series information, allowing us to tease storylines and, more interestingly, use the platform as a means of driving real-time tune-in reminders in a period where TV viewing habits are ever changing.”

The Snapchat activity is supported by an on-air campaign featuring a mobile phone lying on a beach, revealing the cast’s holiday photos in the style of the end credits from ‘The Hangover’.
