Consumer appetite for mobile video has doubled over the past 12 months according to the latest figures from BI Intelligence.

They show that between March 2012 and March 2013 the total share of online video on mobile devices rose from five per cent to over 10 per cent of the market.

Charting the inexorable rise of tablet and smartphone devices the figures highlight how they are now supplanting the role of traditional desktops and laptops as the entertainment platform of choice in the home.

The figures detail how in recent months tablets have passed smartphones as the most popular device upon which to view video, edging toward a six per cent share of online video.

Smartphones by contrast have plateaued at just over four per cent.
