City of Edinburgh Council names Lesley McPherson as chief communications officer

Lesley McPherson has joined City of Edinburgh Council as chief communications officer, commencing the role as of Monday 29 July.

McPherson joins the Council from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) where she held the role of head of communications. As chief communications officer McPherson is tasked with leading the Council’s communications team, covering media relations and communications with local residents and key stakeholders.

Prior to working with the ABI McPherson spent more than 12 years with AEGON UK as head of media relations and then communications director. She also brings experience of working with local government to the role having begun her career at Glasgow City Council.

City of Edinburgh Council director of corporate governance, Alistair Maclean, commented: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Lesley on board and look forward to working with her in developing the Council’s communications with local residents and key stakeholders.”

Of the appointment McPherson said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining the team. This is a great opportunity for me to contribute to the work of the Council in building on the positive things that are happening in the City and in supporting new developments. I am looking forward to this new challenge.”
