Oil and gas brand BP has been revealed as the latest Official Partner of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, as well as Team Scotland and Team England.

The partnership, which will see BP provide fuel for the official Games vehicles, will also involve the brand mentoring 65 people between the ages of 17-25 with the aim of developing their skills and making them more employable, while also participating in a number of local community projects across Scotland.

Peter Mather, group regional vice president for BP UK/Europe, said that the brand was delighted to be a supporter of the 2014 Games, following its involvement in the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

"We are committed to help the organising committee deliver outstanding Games for Scotland and the UK,” he added.

Chairman of Glasgow 2014, Lord Smith of Kelvin, welcomed BP to the list of sponsors. "This is an exciting partnership and with BP’s successful track record in supporting sport, we are looking forward to developing some exciting opportunities with them from now until Games time."

BP is also expected to sign a deal that will make it sponsors of the upcoming Olympics and Paralympic Games in Brazil in 2016.

Already announced as official partners are Virgin Media, Emirates Airlines, Longines and SSE.

Gordon Arthur, chief communications officer for Glasgow 2014, will be among the speakers at The Drum Live on 3 July.
