The Home Office is inviting bids from media, PR and creative agencies to work on a £4m government campaign to raise awareness of cyber crime and educate internet users on how to stay safe.

Launch: The government is seeking to educate on cyber crime

Security minister James Brokenshire launched the initiative, which is part of the National Cyber Security Programme, on Friday and said it was time to "step up" online security measures.

The campaign is running in conjunction with the department of business and innovation and skills, alongside partners such as Get Safe Online, and the government is seeking agencies to get creative on communicating how to stay safe online to consumers and small businesses using digital and on/offline media.

Brokenshire said: "The digitisation of the UK economy has made our lives easier and has created huge opportunities, but it has also created individual security risks as well. If we are to meet these new challenges it’s essential we step up our efforts to stay safe online.

"The threat of cyber crime is real and the criminals involved are organised and driven by profit.

"By making small changes British businesses can remain competitive in the global economy and consumers can have greater confidence using the internet."

The government is inviting tenders on its procurement service's online portal.
