DC THOMSON has confirmed that printing of its iconic Commando war comic – which has been published in by the company since 1961 – is to switch to a plant in Germany.

Editorial jobs will remain in Dundee

The switch was made last month. The comic is now printed by GGP Media in Possneck.

“Since the beginning of May, Commando has been printed by St Ives Management Services at the plant of their sub-contractor, GGP Media, in Germany” DC Thomson confirmed.

“The decision followed a comprehensive review of our printing contracts and was made purely for commercial reasons.

“Commando readers will continue to receive the same, top quality product with rich illustrations and exciting storylines.”

The comic book has been a staple of British childhood reading since its inception.

Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie said: “I welcome this sensible business decision which will lead to no jobs in Dundee being lost.”
