Ofcom has launched an investigation into decisions taken by BBC News, ITV News, Channel 4 News and Sky News among others to broadcast footage before the watershed taken shortly after the killing of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich.

Attack: Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich last month

The watchdog received a number of complaints after the gruesome footage was shown and will decide whether the broadcasters scheduled the coverage responsibly.

The nation was shocked after the brutal death of Drummer Rigby last month and debate quickly erupted over the media's coverage of the incident. Broadcasters and publishers claimed showing the bloodied images and footage was in the public interest.

Michael Adebolajo, 28, from Essex has been charged with Drummer Rigby's murder and 22-year-old Michael Adebowale of Greenwich has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm.
