“World‘s richest“ $60,000 Fleurieu Art Prize calls for entries

The Fleurieu Art Prize, described as the most significant landscape painting prize world wide has today opened for entries.

The event is held from 26 October

The $60,000 top prize is supplemented by an additional Water and Environment Prize of $5,000 available to South Australian entrants.

“The Fleurieu Art Prize culminates in a rich combination of fine art, some of the world's best wine, fine food and beautiful vistas of McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula as the finalists of the Fleurieu Art Prize are exhibited in wineries and galleries throughout this exquisite region in November 2013,” a statement announcing the launch said.

Nigel Hurst, Director of Saatchi Gallery in London has been announced as the head of the judging panel.

“South Australia is clearly embracing contemporary art and I’m delighted to help judge such a unique and important prize,” he said.

Artist Michael Zavros and Director of the Samstag Museum of Art, Erica Green round out the judging panel.

The Fleurieu Landscape Prize is for painting of any landscape from around the world. The call for entries closes on 26 July, and the Fleurieu Art Prize festival is held between 26 October and 25 November.
