Top Gear mag withdrawn for busting Holden VF Commodore embargo

Top Gear Australia magazine has been withdrawn from newsstands after it was accidentally sent out to retailers ahead of Holden Commodore VF drive embargo.

A large scale media event had been held for motoring journalists, allowing them to tour the Commodore from Canberra along the Monaro highway.

The magazines are expected to be back on shelves during Friday.

An anonymous poster on the GM Inside News forum, who respected the embargo, nevertheless posted some insights on the VF launch event.

“I am not at liberty to tell GM Insiders much at present because of the media embargo - except to say, Holden is talking about changing perceptions of Holden, Commodore, large cars in this market in general,” the poster said.

“There is some amazing detail to come - Holden has given us access to the people who designed, engineered the nuts and bolts, and VF not only cherrypicks the best of current and future GM vehicle technology in hardware and electronics, it breaks new ground in numerous way and debuts things which will migrate to other vehicles in the GM empire.

“No wonder Ford has decided to pull the plug on Falcon. There is a level of refinement incorporated in these cars which surpasses anything seen in local manufacture before - along with a new quality: precision.”

A fleet of 24 VF Commodores undertook the cruise along the Monaro highway.

Top Gear Australia magazine has made no public comment on the issue.
