The Federal Government has launched its new myGov online portal, described as “an important step forward in service delivery for Australians.”

An "important step forward"

The portal combines access to Centrelink, Medicare, Child Support and eHealth details, allowing Australians to link services, make claims, view their payment histories and update their personal details.

The Government said its aim was to provide Australians with easier, faster access to secure digital government services.

"Our government is expanding and modernising its online services. We know people are moving away from traditional face-to-face interactions and telephone services so we are making it easier for them to access what they need, online,” Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas said.

“The launch of myGov represents a move towards a single, personalised and secure online account where government services can be accessed in the one place.

"People lead busy lives and need to be able to access government services in a way that suits them. Our government is working hard to ensure people can access important services and payments in a simple and convenient way, and myGov is another way we're helping people to do this."

He added that this was just the start, and more services and features will be added in the future.

"The Australia Taxation Office and a number of other Australian Government agencies are also working on ways to improve access to their services through the use of myGov," he said.

"In addition, the government is determined to maintain its strong record on privacy and protecting personal information.

"I encourage all Australians to set up a myGov account. There is now a streamlined process to register and link services to their account which will only take a few minutes."
