The stand-off between Microsoft and Google over the YouTube app on Windows Phone appears to be at an end as Microsoft looks set to introduce a new version of the app in the coming weeks.

The two companies have agreed to co-develop the new app for Windows Phone, which is likely to appear in the near future.

"Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube’s API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks," a statement from both Microsoft and Google said.

"Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time,”

The dispute began last week after Google issued a take-down request for the app, claiming that it allowed users to bypass content restrictions and did not displays its adverts. Google duly ordered that the app be removed and disabled by 22 May. In response Microsoft issued a patch which addressed some of these concerns.
