Hundreds of people may have turned up for the removal of the hoardings and grand unveiling of Adelaide’s Apple Store at Rundle Mall on Friday night, but those who attended were left underwhelmed, according to the majority of those who tweeted about the experience.

The store, which represents a $2.5 million investment, is Apple’s 20th in Australia and the first official store in South Australia.

However, the majority of reactions on social media suggest the brand has some way to go to win the hearts and minds of South Australians.

@harryb141414 tweeted to State Premier Jay Weatherill’s official account (@JayWeatherill) to ask : “Did apple get any concessions to open their store in adelaide . They don't appear to pay tax anywhere? Are we getting any?”

@omallz said: “The #Adelaide #Apple store in Rundle Mall is surprisingly quite bad in terms of design.”

Additional reactions included: @BanZiNi “Went to the apple store in Adelaide. Lots of wannabes everywhere. Who really gives a shit? It's like they haven't seen an iPhone or iPad b4."

@the_cheshirekat: “Why the actual hell would anyone queue up overnight for the opening of the #Adelaide Apple Store?"

@oliyoung: “For fuck’s sake, when did getting an Apple store “put #adelaide on the map” — could you be a little more hyperbolic about a SHOP?"

@jennyfrase: “Went into a huge brand new apple store in Adelaide today, it was so busy people were basically moshing."

The store includes 120 “touch points” for browsers to test Apple products, customers can buy products without queuing using the store app to scan barcodes with their iPhones and pay through their iTunes accounts.

The store opened on Saturday morning.
