A film posted on YouTube by Melbourne’s AJF Partnership to promote Holden’s Volt electric car has garnered an astonishing 375,000 views since it debuted two months ago.

The film utilises hidden cameras in a petrol station, in which unsuspecting customers are billed only $2.50 for filling their tank, claimed to be the same cost as recharging the Volt.

Holden has pledged to continue to manufacture cars in Australia until 2022, as news broke that rival Ford is likely to cease production within in the country.

The new Holden Commodore VF launches next month. Holden chairman Mike Devereux, denied that larger cars were no longer viable.

"They're wrong, just look around the world,” he said.

“The reason why this debate gets exacerbated in this country is because of the abnormal dominance that one type of car had, unlike any other market on the planet."
