A woman who boasted on Twitter that she’d hit a cyclist with her car has apologised after being suspended from work as a result.

Emma Way yesterday tweeted: "Definitely knocked a cyclist off earlier – I have right of way he doesn’t even pay road tax #bloody cyclists” which led to a response from Norwich Police telling her to report the incident.

Since tweeting about the incident, she has been suspended from her job at an accountancy firm and received abuse through her Twitter account in reaction.

Speaking to ITV News Anglia alongside her lawyer she apologised for what she described as a “stupid tweet” before claiming to have been driving responsibly and faily to stop after assuming that the cyclist had not been hurt.

The cyclist is understood to have been participating in a 100-mile cycling event at the time of the incident.
