It found that Australians have an average of more than 12 password-protected accounts, but 50% of Australian mobile phone users do not have a password to protect their devices.

It found that 61% have a password for their home desktop computer, and that almost one third of women use their pet’s name as their password. It also found that 40 per cent of Australians believe someone else knows at least one of their passwords

“National Cyber Security Awareness Week provides a focus for all of us to consider how we can be safer and more secure online,” Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Stephen Conroy said.

“A simple way to be more secure online is to toughen up our passwords, as well as change them regularly, so that our online information is as safe as it can be.”
