Ofcom pledges to tackle subtitle blunders with six-monthly checks after years of famous gaffes
Ofcom has published new measures to tackle subtitle blunders in an effort to make broadcasters increase service standards following ongoing complaints.

Around 7.6 million UK adults have used subtitles at some point and around 70 channels offer the option, leading Ofcom to introduce plans for six monthly quality checks to avoid errors.
Previous mistakes have included a BBC broadcast of the Queen Mother's funeral in 2002 which called for a moment's violence. Another red-faced moment for the BBC occurred when one reporter's subtitles famously claimed pigs nibbled willies instead of wellies.
Ofcom hopes the plans will give broadcaster's an incentive to get it right.
