Facebook could be set to unveil video advertising in newsfeeds from July, with the videos to play automatically without sound, providing users the options to play from start with sound if interested.

According to the Financial Times, companies such as Unilever, American Express and Coca-Cola are expected to take part in initial trials for the new ad product, along with other brands which sit on Facebook’s client council.

It has been suggested that each ad will only be up to 15 seconds long, and that users will only see content from one advertiser a day to begin with.

This is not the first update for marketers and advertisers that Facebook has made this year: it has also recently launched new advertising products such as Lookalike Audiences, Managed Custom Audiences, and Partner Categories, which help marketers improve their targeting capabilities on Facebook.

Last week, Facebook reported that almost a third of its advertising revenue for Q1 came through mobile.
