The bicycle at the centre of the ‘plebgate’ storm which engulfed former cabinet minister and chief whip Andrew Mitchell has been put up for sale on eBay in a bid to raise money for charity.

The Reflex Westminster, complete with wicker basket, is currently attracting bids in excess of £4,200 with two and a half days still to go before those all-important last minute bids come flooding in.

In its listing the bike is described as a ‘regular commuter to and from the House of Commons over the years with numerous journeys to the Department for International Development & Number 10 Downing Street.’

Mitchell hopes to find a good home for his trusty stead now that he is no longer at the centre of political life.

All proceeds from the sale will go towards Nyumbani, a charity dedicated to providing care for children with HIV and Aids in Kenya.
