Storm Thorgerson, the graphic designer behind a succession of iconic album covers for bands including Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel and Muse, has dies.

The artist was most famous for his 1973 cover for Pink Floyd’s album The Dark Side of the Moon which is widely regarded as one of the greatest covers ever.

Thorgerson, a childhood friend of the founding members of the group, went on to become their chief designer penning a string of album covers.

Pink Floyd guitarist and singer David Gilmour said: “He has been a constant force in my life, both at work and in private, a shoulder to cry on and a great friend. I will miss him.”
