Dailymotion is launching its first TV production studio as it looks to bolster its original content output and drive competitive edge.

The video platform, which claims to be the second largest after YouTube, is calling for proposals for original, creative video content ahead of the opening of the Paris-based studio next month.

It is investing “hundreds of thousands” of euros in the project, which is aimed at providing a platform for emerging talent and creative, original content.

Dailymotion, will be looking for a variety of formats including variety shows, interactive short programmes, web series, music and dance videos, with all entries judged on creativity. Those Dailymotion selects will be produced at the studio and given financial backing.

The 600m-squared Dailymotion studio includes film sets, post-production facilities, and a projection room. It will run all final content on the site, which has Dailymotion’s 112 million users.

Marc Eychenne, head of International content at Dailymotion, said: “While others broadcasters are trying to find the big stars and bring them onto their platform, Dailymotion is looking to identify the web’s best emerging talent and give them a platform and the support to become the stars of tomorrow.”

People can submit ideas can do so by emailing studio@dailymotion.com before 30 April.
