Facebook has reportedly seen a 24 per cent jump in in desktop-game users in the past year, according to an e-mailed statement from the company.

Bloomberg states that Facebook gamers have jumped from 235 million to 250 million in October, with Facebook director of game partnerships, Sean Ryan saying that: "This is an important category for Facebook. It's good for Facebook. It's good for users."

The announcement comes following Facebook’s split with Zynga, which brought titles such as 'Farmville', 'Texas HoldEm Poker' and 'Words with Friends' to the social networking site.

Zynga recently launched its own portal for its websites and partnered with Nokia in a drive towards mobile gaming.

The Facebook Developer Day at Game Developers Conference 2013 claimed that its games are a now $2 billion business with more than 100 developers generating more than $1 million each from the company last year.
