VisitScotland is teaming up with National Geographic as part of its initiative to promote the year of natural Scotland.

The £400,000 campaign will see VisitScotland using National Geographic’s platforms for promotions, including homepage takeovers, banner ads and information being posted to subscribers.

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “This partnership with National Geographic has seen VisitScotland undertake a whole series of activities designed to promote the Year of Natural Scotland around the globe.

“National Geographic is the world’s best known nature title so to be working with them so closely is a fantastic opportunity for Scotland. Through TV, websites, written press, and eNewsletters, millions of people will have the chance to get more information about the Year of Natural Scotland, and the country as the natural destination for visitors.”

This activity follows on from two major initiatives already undertaken between VisitScotland and National Geographic earlier this year.

Keith Bellows, editor in chief at National Geographic Travel Media, said: “It's a delight to partner with VisitScotland to help share this singular country with the world. Scotland is a treasure and I've long been shocked that its enchantments aren't more widely celebrated. I discovered Scotland as a teenager and marvel at its extraordinary inventiveness and compelling character (and characters). Add a wild sense of humour and luminous, misty-moor-and highland landscapes and this is a very special place indeed.”
