UK crisp and snack brand Golden Wonder has mounted a colour intervention petition in an attempt to re-establish the packet colours of Cheese & Onion and Salt & Vinegar crisps.

“Why our competitor decided to put Cheese & Onion crisps in blue bags and Salt & Vinegar crisps in green bags, we’ll never know. But what we do know is that customers get frustrated with the confusing colour scheme,” says Scott Guthrie, group marketing director, at Tayto, parent company of the Golden Wonder brand.

Competitors Walkers whose Salt & Vinegar crisps are sold in green packets and Cheese & Onion in blue packets maintain that this has been their colour scheme since the late forties when the brand appeared on the market (though there are many unfounded rumours that Walkers switched colours in the 1980s to differentiate itself from other brands).

Guthrie adds: “The time has come to restore the natural order and address the issue. We want crisp lovers nationwide to stand up and help make a change. Enough is enough.”

Currently over 400 people have signed the online petition which aims to gain 100,000 signatures.
