The Sunday Herald has released a trial app for its Life magazine.

The iOS only app has been released this week, developed with the backing of Scotrail, as a trial initially and features new content and photography.

Speaking to The Drum, Richard Walker, editor of The Sunday Herald explained that the app had been developed initially as a free-to-dowload trial but should it go ahead as a regularly updated app, an Android version would also be developed, while the second version would include a directory featuring links to advertisers.

"This is pilot scheme," said Walker. "What we would ideally like is for it to be weekly but at the moment it's an initial six month project with the backing of Scotrail. Then we'll see what happens."

Scotrail's commercial director Sean Duffy explained why he chose to back the development and trail of the app: "We see it as a showcase of what Scotland has to offer and what is going on here, thats why we wanted to get behind that as we're all about promoting Scotland to our passengers."

Should the trial go ahead beyond its initial six month period, plans also include the development of a mobile app also.
