Facebook has given its newsfeed a revamp which will be unveiled at a media event at its Menlo Park California headquarters next week.

The event, taking place on March 7, comes just weeks after it revealed its social search feature in mid-January.

Speculation is already mounting that Facebook’s newsfeed, which has not been updated since September 2011, will become more mobile friendly with the redesign, as the company continues to shift its focus to creating “mobile first experiences”.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Brian Blau, an analyst with industry research firm Gartner, said that the mobile version of Facebook still lacks many of the features available on the PC version, “so maybe this is a way to bring some of that together.”

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already emphasised the importance of the newsfeed function for Facebook, saying it is one of the three "pillars" of the service, along with search and user profiles.
