Volkswagen has unveiled an ad for its new Beetle Convertible, created by Deutsch.
Entitled ‘mask’, the ad shows a man in a balaclava walking into a local shop, walking up and down the aisles and picking up food while other shoppers look dismayed and try to hide.
The ad looks to ramp up the suspense before the truth of the matter is revealed.

Such a simple advert, but it works so well! The cinematography is great and the masked shopper expresses so much whilst doing so little. It might have worked better without the voiceover at the end as the joke is clear, but still nicely done. And admit it, you totally want to be the little guy in the yellow balaclava, quietly sitting in the back seat.
