Carlsberg has handed its global advertising account to Argentinian-based agency Santo, The Drum can reveal.

Santo won the lager brand's account, which was previously held by Fold 7, following a final two-way pitch with London and Paris-based BETC.

Fold 7 was appointed to the account in 2010, producing a number of football-related campaigns and notably dropping the famous "That calls for a Carlsberg" tagline in 2011.

Carlsberg's global digital agency, LBi, is not affected by the appointment, it is understood.

At the time of writing, Carlsberg had not commented, but it is thought to be set to make an announcement imminently.

Update: A Carlsberg spokesperson has now confirmed The Drum's report.

They said: "Santo has been chosen as the new lead creative for the Carlsberg brand.

"They will help us to develop further the existing strategy for the Carlsberg brand and one of their first tasks will be to focus on our sponsorship of the Premier League."
