The Rugby World League and Leeds Rhinos have appointed Deep Red Creative to promote the World Cup Challenge, a face-off between the current world champions and NRL Grand Final winners Melbourne Storm at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium on February 22.

Anticipation for the clash is building in Yorkshire with Leeds hoping to draw a sell-out crowd for the top tussle, fueled by a raft of pop ups, posters and flyers as well as social media, websites and on-screen messaging.

Deep Red has also created a player poster and sticker collection to depict the Rhinos players and squad’s nicknames.

Don Mammatt, Deep Red’s creative director, said: “They were looking to work with a creative agency that could design a concept that elicited an emotional response rather than simply conveying match information. The remit was to reach out beyond the regular fan base and encourage match attendance from sports enthusiasts, who had never been to a rugby league game at Headingley, to come and experience all the excitement of this showcase event.”

Leeds Rhinos’ head of marketing Michelle Anderson added: “We have enjoyed working with Deep Red on this project and the results have gone down really well with our supporters. We are set for another sell out crowd for the World Club Challenge and the campaign has helped to build up the excitement over the last month.”
