Twitter has launched its video app from Vine, the start-up which it bought last year, allowing users to embed videos in their tweets.
The app, which will be available initially as a standalone app from the Apple store, has been designed to mean that videos can be no longer that six seconds.
In its blog post Vine explained that it’s “about abbreviation — the shortened form of something larger. They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They're quirky, and we think that's part of what makes them so special.”
Twitter boss Dick Costolo posted his first video tweet, showing how to make steak tartare in less than six seconds.
The app has also allowed Vine users to follow other Vine users and search for clips from people they know.
However, some are critical of the fact that the embedded video, in its current form, plays continuously in a loop, which could become irritating.
