The Sun's crime reporter arrested as part of Operation Elveden

Anthony France, The Sun’s crime reporter, has been arrested as part of Operation Elveden, the investigation into alleged corrupt payments to public officials by journalists.

France and two serving Metropolitan Police officers were detained following dawn raids on their homes. The two officers were held on suspicion of misconduct in public office and corruption, France was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office.

Information provided to police by News Corporation in light of the phone hacking scandal lead to the arrests, with a Scotland Yard spokesman confirming that all three were held on suspicion of offences carried out between 2004 and 2011.

Operation Elveden has resulted in 56 arrests to date.
