Sky Sports has updated is iPad app to let users have access to on-screen analysis tools during live football coverage.

Viewers watching live Sky Sports Barclays Premier League matches can now access some of the analysis technology used by Gary Neville and Ed Chamberlin on Monday Night Football. The new features let users gain more information on the match using Opta live data, as well as team information, tactics and player analysis.

Sky Sports presenter Gary Neville said: “Since joining Sky Sports this technology has allowed me to get a greater insight into a match. Now Sky customers can use the data I have at my fingertips, giving them the story behind the result.”

The app includes the ‘Average Formation Map’, which lets fans follow a team’s shape throughout the match and isolate key formations at crucial moments, and ‘Player Touch Maps’, where users can see which players have had the most impact on a match using data showing every touch from every player. Both features include an adjustable timeline so users can view a specific period of play.

Sky Bet has also been integrated so users can stake a bet via the app.

Director of Sky Sports digital media, David Gibbs, added that the update was part of the broadcasters “ongoing commitment to offer the most comprehensive range of apps and extra features”.
