Ad of the Day: Compare The Market - Spencer's Troubled

This superb addition to the winning Compare The Market campaign introduces us to Alexandr Orlov in human form. Robert Webb plays the man behind 'Compare the Market' and it seems he's as determined to ensure there's no confusion as his meerkat counterpart. Fresh impetus at just the right moment.

The new advert is so wrong because it is neither funny, clever or interesting. What bright spark thought that this format was a step forward and would additionally generate the 'spin offs' that the Meerkat format has done ? Why change it ? It won't encourage me to use Compare the Market especially an advert with an actor shouting about the different spellings and the way different words sound. Bring back the Meerkats and sack the advertising executive that fouled up a succesful advertising campaign.

bad move. Loyalty to comparethemarket was via the meerkats...hard to get for a company flogging insurance - but easily lost.

Has no-one else noticed this advert is a total and utter rip-off of the Tennents lager ad series, featuring Hugh Tennent and his side-kick? The side kick in the new meerkat ad is even played by the EXACT same actor!! How can they get away with this??

In this advert the guy writes MEERKAT and MARKET and says they contain "different" letters and are pronounced differently. THEY CONTAIN THE SAME LETTERS, but as they are in a different order it makes a DIFFERENT WORD!!! JEEEZ thats so simple it's unbelieveable that some ad-man was paid a lot of money to pump out such badly worded drivvel!!

@gumbu95718 The word, 'meerkat', has an extra 'e' and thus by definition has different letters from the word, 'market'. Just sayin'.

Christ you lot are stupid. IT'S TAKING THE PISS OUT OF THEIR EARLIER ADVERTS. Making the point that no normal cretin could actually, accidentally go to comparethemeerkat.com instead of comparethemarket.com. BECAUSE THEY'RE TOTALLY FUCKING DIFFERENT. That's the joke. Yes? I think it's hilarious because it's self-referential and maybe requires a modicum of intelligence to get it, which is where the rest of you fell down.

@cyphe11690 I totally agree. It is hilarious and the rest of you that are slagging it off have absolutely no SOH whatsoever. Genius Ad.

Has anyone noticed that about 47 seconds in (and from then on), his jacket seems to have the text "mong" embroidered on it?
