A Montreal media school has admitted that a viral video of a toddler being snatched by a golden eagle is in fact a hoax.

Uploaded to YouTube at the beginning of the week, the video showed the eagle circling in the sky above a park before swooping down and snatching the child with its talons before dropping it and flying away.

In just a few short hours the video managed to amass over two million views and was appearing in newsfeeds, inboxes and media reports worldwide.

Admitting the hoax in a blog past the Montreal-based Centre NAD said the video was the work of several students in the school’s 3D Animation and Digital Design programme, adding: “Both the eagle and the kid were created in 3D animation and integrated into the film afterwards.

“The production simulation workshop class, offered in fifth semester, aims to produce creative projects according to industry production and quality standards.”
