Instagram, the photo-sharing site owned by Facebook, has made changes to its privacy policy which means that the company can sell its users’ photos to advertisers without their consent.

The updated privacy policy also gives Instagram permission to share information about its users with Facebook and affiliates.

Users are warned that unless they delete their account by 16 January, they cannot opt out of the changes.

The new policy states: "We may share your information as well as information from tools like cookies, log files, and device identifiers and location data with organisations that help us provide the service to you... (and) third-party advertising partners.

"To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.”

What do you think about this move? Is has been described as a ‘suicide note’ by one user: do you agree?
