Ready to drink alcohol brand VK has announced that it will give a donation to charity, as it looks to capitalise on the PR blunder by rival brand WK, who suggested that consumers should buy WKD instead of donating to dog charities.

The company has said that it will donate 1p for every bottle of VK Blue sold until New Year’s Eve to Dogs Trust, a charity with a ‘no kill’ policy.

Steve Perez, founder of VK, said: “The misled campaign has resulted in a huge consumer backlash as WKD’s social media pages have been filled with complaints from angry consumers stating that they will never drink the brand again.

“VK is all about fun, flavours and friends so it only seemed right in the circumstances to share some festive goodwill with our canine companions. We’re a nation of dog lovers who can’t wait for Christmas and it’s great to think that people can share VK and help a great cause.”

WKD is set to remove the campaign in its entirety following complaints, with the ASA having received over 50 complaints about the ads this morning.
