Pope sends first tweet from @Pontifex account
Pope Benedict the XVI has today sent his first tweet, leading to the word ‘Pope’ trending no the social media site.
The tweet read: “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.”
The Pope unveiled his account earlier this month, and currently has over 650,000 followers on his English Twitter page, although he also has seven other accounts, all in different languages.
The tweet has currently had over 11,000 retweets, and has been classed as a favourite by over 3,500.
