Last year the Royal Wedding topped the list of what people were talking about on Facebook. This year, based on the conversations of the 30 million Brits using Facebook, the focus was on the X Factor’s Rylan Clark, The London Olympics and Alton Towers.

The most talked about event of 2012 was unsurprisingly the London 2012 Olympics and in a close second was the most talked about book of the summer, 50 Shades of Grey. Despite only coming into the spotlight in the latter half of this year, the X Factor’s Rylan Clark managed to come in as the third most popular topic of Facebook conversation.

Meanwhile the most listened to songs list, which was determined by plays via Spotify, was topped by Gotye’s hit, Somebody That I Used to Know. Second was We Are Young – feat Janelle Monae by Fun and the third most played song was We Found Love by Rihanna.

The most checked-in place of 2012 was Alton Towers with Thorpe Park Official and the Trafford Centre coming in second and third. The Olympic Village was the tenth most checked in place of 2012.
