In one of the biggest boosts yet for Netflix, Disney has signed a multi-year licensing deal with the streaming movie network, making them the exclusive US subscription TV outlet for first-run live action and animated features.

Disney: Big Netflix deal

The deal with Walt Disney Studios starts in 2016 and takes in Pixar and Marvel as wel.

Bloomberg's Scarlet Fu said the deal signalled that "online viewing has was become mainstream and posed a major threat to traditional pay TV".

Netflix shares zoomed 14 per cent on the New York stock exchange. Starting in 2016, Netflix will be able to offer members movies from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Disneynature as soon as they are made available for pay TV.

The deal includes television, tablets, computers and mobile phones. Netflix will also gain access to classic films from the Disney library, such as “Dumbo” and “Alice In Wonderland.”

This is a great comeback for Netflix. Ten months ago they lost Disney content when their pact with the Starz premium cable networks expired.
