With old style sweet shops reappearing on high street’s across the UK, design agency Elmwood has reimagined what forgotten classics like Trio bars, Funny Feet, and Toffos may look like after launching a campaign to “Bring Back a Brand” with industry title The Grocer.

Along with the help of Brand Engage, who brought the campaign to life on Facebook, over 8,000 people voted for their favourite forgotten confectionary brands. Igniting passionate debate, hundreds of suggestions of brands people sorely miss from the confectionary aisles poured in.

Banjo bars, Spangles and Willy Wonka chocolate bars were just a few of the sweet treats people would love to see back on the shelves, on a more savoury note there was even a call to bring back Jamie Oliver’s dreaded Turkey Twizzlers.

Following the success of re-launches such as Cadbury’s Wispa Bar, it would seem nostalgia is a big draw for today’s consumers.

Elliot Wilson, Elmwood managing director, commented: “In times of austerity nostalgia can be a very powerful tool. It brings something very emotive for shoppers and a real sense of comfort. From a brand perspective this can be very influential and something brands can have a lot of fun with.”

Brand Engage managing director Duncan Walters added: “In order to build customer engagement, you must first find something that people are passionate about. The Bring Back a Brand campaign taps into a current trend for British nostalgia that has seen people use Social Media to lobby multinational companies to resurrect their favourite brands and products.

“The Grocer's campaign has been designed by us to spark debate, build engagement and unite the public with a rallying cry to hopefully Bring Back a Brand that we’ve all missed for many years.”

The makers of the much loved brands are now being approached to see if they can be convinced to bring these brands back.
