Daily Mirror and Daily Record launch digital editions

The Daily Mirror and Daily Record have today launched the first weekday e-editions of their respective national titles.

Launched on the iPad the digital versions will be free to all UK users with paid for apps available to international users.

Incorporating print content alongside video, expandable articles, interactive ads, automatic overnight downloads (via Newsstand) and a live news ticker the apps are intended to offer a far more immersive environment.

Lloyd Embley, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People, said: “This is everything you’d expect from the Mirror and more. Visually it looks stunning and the interactivity brings a whole new depth to our content. The e-edition is brimming with the energy and creativity that will extend the reach of our journalism to new and wider audiences.”

Allan Rennie, editor-in-chief of the Daily Record & Sunday Mail, said: “The e-edition brings a different vibrancy to our paper which allows us to showcase our leading Scottish news, sport and entertainment in exciting new ways.”

Chris Ellis, Trinity Mirror’s managing director of digital, who led the development of the e-editions, said: “The app looks just like the print version but the key difference is in the touch. Significantly, this introduces a whole new level of engagement and interactivity that makes both the Mirror and Record truly relevant to the digital generation.”
