Former BIG Partnership account director Beth Nicol is to head up independent PR agency Citypress’ new Edinburgh office, which opened last week.

Alongside Nicol, Citypress has also recruited ex-editor of the Scottish Mirror, Crawford Brankin, as a consultant after the acquisition of his PR operation JCB Consultancy in August. Brankin also has experience with Beattie Media having previously held the role of operations director.

Brankin and Nicol are now tasked with developing the Citypress client base across Scotland, with a consultancy team currently being recruited to service the agency’s clients from the Edinburgh base at Kittles Yard, Causewayside.

Managing director of Citypress, Charles Tattersall, commented: “We have gradually built our client base in Scotland over the past three years, supported by JCB Consultancy and a strong freelance network. It was a natural move to acquire JCB this summer and retain Crawford to work alongside us to further develop our business in Edinburgh.

“The appointment of Beth Nicol and the development of a new agency team in Scotland is a signal of our ambition to expand and create new jobs in Edinburgh.”

Prior to working with The BIG Partnership, Nicol was an account director at MHP Communications in London. Speaking of her new role Nicol said: “Citypress has seen year-on-year growth and has firm ambitions for future expansion, which makes it an extremely exciting time to join the agency…I’m confident that Citypress can develop its market share further and have a meaningful impact on the PR industry in Scotland.”

As well as opening a Scottish office, Citypress has announced its Midlands office has moved to larger offices in the heart of Birmingham’s professional district. The Midlands operation opened in April 2011 and since then has more than doubled in size.

Katie Dale, head of Midlands at Citypress, added: “This move is a long-term investment for Citypress and underlines our continuing commitment to Birmingham and the wider Midlands region.”
