Marketing Weak: This nutty Nature Valley ad will drive you round the bend

Winning our Marketing Weak award for dodgy ads this week is this nutty spot from Nature Valley.

A nice drive in the country has gone badly wrong for a couple who find themselves in the middle of a field. Luckily they're able to get more from their rural break when they eat a couple of cereal bars and with the SatNav blethering away in the background, they start to appreciate what nature has to offer.

SatNavs drive us round the bend at the best of times, so we could really do without this one interrupting our ad breaks.

And why doesn't the dog bounce?

I think you're being far too harsh. The sat-nav joke at the end is OK. There's a whole lot of product benefts in there and the 'toffee pull' is classic food-ad technique so it must work. Doubtless many Drum readers would have been happier if Nature Valley had chosen to try and sell cereal bars via a 15-cert viral with someone edgy-looking, speaking subtitled Norwegian, riding a retro scooter naked whilst beating a shark's arse with a rolled up carpet, or something, whilst making no link to the product at all until some smarty-bottomed backward reference occurs in the last 2 seconds of the film along with a granulated, static packshot as a sop to the poor tw##s who paid for it.

That's not a bad ad considering it probably cost next to nothing. Why knock it so hard? It made me chuckle. It offers better value than those stupid meerkats or John Lewis' shite £6m Xmas ad. But the agency's website is just a holding page and they even call themselves 'cheap' on it. Never use that word guys, ever.

People that eat nature valley are so stupid that they follow their sat nav across a field. At what point do people use common sense with those things?!

Not as bad an ad as it's made out to be though, it is a bit cheesy
