Boots has today announced the launch of a Christmas app, which will let users film a video personal greeting on their smartphone.

The app can scan the QR code on a special gift tag available free in larger stores, with users then able to create the video before attaching the tag to a gift.

Other features of the app include a gift list, a gift ideas function and a barcode reader.

Ruth Spencer, director of loyalty and multi-channel at Boots UK, said: “We know that when it comes to their Christmas shopping, customers want to find that perfect present for their loved one, so we wanted to create an app that both helped them find the right gift then also share a personal message with the recipient that explains why the gift is so perfect for them using the video messaging function as well.

“We know that people are using their smart phones at Christmas to shop smart, so we’ve developed our first Christmas app to help make the Christmas gift shopping experience easier and more enjoyable.”

The Boots Christmas app will be supported by a full marketing campaign including advertising, direct marketing and PR.
