AKQA opens in Tokyo with Nike and Nissan as launch clients

Digital agency AKQA has opened a new office in Japan to work on accounts with Nike and Nissan.

The Tokyo office has a staff of 10 and is AKQA's fourth opening this year having launched in Paris in January and Atlanta and Portland in October.

Within the first half of 2013, AKQA plans to recruit a further people in Tokyo. It is currently hiring for design, strategy, creative and project management roles.

Ajaz Ahmed, AKQA's founder and CEO, said: "I fell in love with Japan on my first visit over ten years ago. I’ve returned many times since and the opening of our eleventh AKQA office in Tokyo is a wonderful goal realised for our team."

AKQA's most recent office openings follow its $540m acquisition by WPP in June.

The agency's chief creative officer and vice president, Rei Inamoto, said: "Japan is the most advanced market – it’s where the future happens. It’s been a dream of mine to open an AKQA office in Japan to inspire and be inspired."
