Highly respected creative Lindsey Redding has died following a battle with cancer, The Drum is sad to report.

Redding, who was 52, had battled cancer since last August and reported his chemotherapy treatment through a personal blog, with his final entry being filed on 27 August this year.

According to his blog, he entered the advertising industry with a degree in graphic design, having been told by a fellow student it was a guaranteed way of becoming ‘fabulously wealthy’ at a young age.

“Twenty five years later, he hunted down the person responsible and killed him with a baseball bat and buried the body in the woods,” the blog then added.

Having worked as an art director at agencies in Edinburgh, including Faulds, and London, he then emigrated to New Zealand in the mid-90s with his family, working at agencies including The Campaign Palace, DDB and Saatchi’s.

In recent years he had been running his own animation studio, where he produced a number of adverts for the industry in New Zealand.

Gareth Howells, who had Redding as his mentor while working at Faulds, paid the following tribute: “Lindsey taught me two things I still use today. Give as much time as you can to the people coming through who are keen to learn and do your best.”

Howell’s continued: “Myself and Dougal [Wilson] were snotty creatives that hounded him for help. He never complained. He showed me a lot of patience and also showed me how to attempt art direction.

“All our thought are with his family at this sorry time. He'll be missed by the creative community.”
