Huffington Post was knocked out last night by Hurricane Sandy, with reporters having to make updates via Facebook and Twitter – including a hand-drawn ‘front page’.

The news website, along with Gawkr, was knocked offline at about 7pm New York time on Monday after the power was cut.

The Huffington Post began operating a cut-down version of its main front page today, with a message stating: "Due to power outages caused by Superstorm Sandy, our own website is experiencing technical difficulties.

“We are working around the clock to get the site back to normal. The news team, which has offices around the US and in other countries, is still monitoring everything and will be updating this page with the latest on the storm."

While other outlets, such as Guardian US, have also been hit, others have dropped their pay walls for weather-related sections, including the New York Journal and wall Street Times.
