BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten has intimated that BBC director general George Entwistle and other senior executives may be forced to resign after stating that they still ‘have legitimate questions to answer.’

It follows weeks of torrid headlines in which the allegations against Jimmy Savile get worse and worse, whilst Entwistle put in a poor performance during a grilling by MPs over the sordid affair.

In a flowery turn of phrase Patten depicted the hapless Entwistle as being drenched in a ‘tsunami of filth’ over the matter during an interview with the BBC’s World at One with lasting damage being done to the broadcaster as a whole.

Political fallout from the affair has been almost exclusively critical of the BBC with even Labour MPs queuing up to criticise, notably Paul Farrelly, a culture media and sport select committee member, who said Entwistle hadn’t yet shown he could ‘get a grip’ of the situation.
