Frankie Boyle has been awarded £50,400 by a High Court jury over his libel case with the Daily Mirror.

Comedian Boyle said that the newspaper defamed him by calling him racist in an article published on July 19 2011.

Daily Mirror publisher Mirror Group Newspapers defended the article by arguing that Boyle ‘exploits’ stereotypes for a ‘cheap laugh’.

Boyle said in evidence: “I think you have a lot of rich and Conservative people who control our country who are racist and their views trickle down through things like tabloid papers."
